Signing Applications To Avoid Certificate Error

Anyone who has tried installing applications onto a modern smartphone, especially the symbian 60 v3 and v5 will definitely have come across the 'Certificate Error' for sure. Here's How you can avoid it by signing your applications after obtaining your certificates.

Signing apps can be done two ways. Online and offline.

Offline is the best way if you need to sign many apps, but initially you need a net connection to obtain the certificates though you can sign offline. But offline method mostly gives errors if not done in the proper way and so is a hazzle for new people.

Online is easy for signing single apps like helloox or one or two apps if thats all you need to run on your phone. But its very slow and inconvenient to sign many apps using online method as each app has to got to the opda server and come back. But it is very easy to do online and needs no tools and makes no error at all.

Signing Applications Offline

1. Goto OPDA English and register for an account.

2. Login to that account Login Link

3. Apply for a certificate Apply Link
Fill in the Model No and Remark with whatever you like. Fill IMEI no: carefully making no mistakes. IMEI No. can be found either by typing *#06# in phone dialer or just check on phone box or below battery. If you make a mistake while typing IMEI, you will have to repeat from this step till the end again. Screen will show Imei registered and status Pending.

4. Wait for Minimum of 1Hr, relogin and check status Status Link. If its ready, download the .cer and .key files to pc and keep it in a folder on your PC. Sometimes it may even take 24hrs for it to become ready.

5. On the same page 2 signing tools are available. One is .sis and one is exe. Download the exe file and keep it in the same folder as certificate and key. Now all work online is finished. Internet connection is no longer required.

6. In the folder on your pc where the 3 files are kept, copy all the apps which need signing to install on phone.

7. Run signing tool, select the last tab and select english and restart the signing software. Now it will open in english.

8.Select your .cer and .key certificate and key files and then browse for your application which you copied earlier and which needs signing and sign each of them. When an app is signed, a dialog box will pop in chineese and check the title bar of that box. If its says success, you can use your app, if it is failed, you made a mistake somewhere.

9. The signed app will possibly be save in the same folder with opda and 'signed' appended to its name. Transfer all signed apps to phone and discard the previous ones. Install all apps one by one neglecting the warnings.
